Coach & Training Facilitator

Laurie Valaer is an accomplished, dynamic facilitator and coach, whose education, coaching expertise, and personal work experience give her a unique perspective on personal growth, collaboration, and success.

Philosophy

"We live in a culture that encourages independence and rewards individual achievement.  Look no further than the field of engineering and other technical professions to see evidence of this.  As such, it is easy to lose sight of ourselves and our dreams, and to become separated from the things and the people that we love.  I believe that this is particularly hurtful to women.  As a sub-culture, women used to gather together to  accomplish many of their daily tasks.  Not only did the work get done more efficiently...but women also connected on a deeper level and made invaluable friendships."
~ Laurie Valaer

Laurie's purpose is to empower women as they join together in a new time of connection and collaboration, rather than isolation and competition
.

Passion
It can be particularly challenging for women in predominately male professions, like engineering, to build a strong sense of self-awareness and to express and utilize that awareness fully.  And diversity, which so many companies strive for, suffers as a result!

Laurie's passion is to guide women as they develop greater self-awareness and learn to empower themselves via personal growth and through creating strong connections with other women.  She strives to help women find a voice for their convictions, creating the success in work and life that they desire and deserve.

Background
Laurie’s effective leadership and communication skills have been fine-tuned through 15 years of professional software engineering experience in the defense industry.    Given her background, Laurie is very familiar with, and has personally experienced, the challenges that women often face in the corporate world, especially in the field of engineering.

In addition to strong technical credentials, her background includes technical and personal mentoring, team management and organization, conflict resolution, interviewing, software marketing demonstrations, employee and customer training, and creating effective team interactions.  Working in the corporate software environment has also provided Laurie with invaluable life experience.
